ARTY BEES BOOKS NEWSLETTER

11th August 2003

Greetings and salutations all of you; you won't have heard from me for a while but my (ahem) superiors have cajoled, nay, straight-out blackmailed me into writing this month's newsletter so here I am again (yes, sometimes the management techniques can be a bit suspect around here but I'm afraid they've really got me this time…)

So what delightful and exciting tidbits do we have for you? Apparently a new computer is imminent to help speed us in our attempts to take over the world, or something. Honestly, with all this new technology around it's starting to feel like the Starship Enterprise (beam me up!) And, speaking of such geeky, science-fictiony things, the arrival of new sci-fi at Bizy Bee's continues apace (Warp speed!) Oh yes, we have some fab things here for you, my precious; the new Feist, Jimmy the Hand, more of such favourites as David Weber and Tanya Huff, and heaps and heaps of stuff which I've never even heard of! (Sorry, I'm definitely not the sci-fi expert of the store but I can assure you that it's all very exciting.) In addition to all this, there is currently a blue folder sitting on the desk at BB's which contains pages detailing all sorts of goodies we will be getting in the future: delights such as Robert Asprin and Andre Norton, even a few things which haven't been published yet! Feel free to come down, browse through the folder, even put your name down for something if it really grabs your fancy.

You may have heard something about Terawhiti which was published by Arty Bee's Books.
We have had the book launch which went swimmingly and produced benevolent feelings all round, as well as a lovely photograph of all the management looking very cheery and shiny (Jess in particular… actually, this photo may end up on the website so perhaps you'll get to see what I'm talking about, hint, hint). Anyway, Terawhiti has proven to be quite popular and has evoked plenty of response from readers; if it has piqued your interest at all both our stores still have a healthy supply retailing for $40 each so come 'n' get it!

The July poetry readings at Bizy Bee's (Gosh, culture! Who knows where it will all end?) were also quite successful: attendance was pretty good and we had readings from such poetic luminaries as Michael O'Leary, L E Scott, Vivienne Plumb, Scott Kendrick, and the list goes on! And while the readings themselves may be finished, their spirit remains as we are still stocking many of the books of these poets at BB's, so come and check 'em out — a beautiful marriage between theory and practice, reading and writing… ooer, getting a bit esoteric there, better move on…

Well, last time I wrote one of these things I managed to come up with a fun game for you all to play: "find the new shelves", wasn't it? Well, here's a new one — see if you can spot the new staff member! Yes, yet another addition to our mad, crazy brew — how could they do that to another poor innocent?, you ask yourselves. Well, don't feel too sorry for her — she's not entirely unknown to the whole Arty/Bizy Bee's shebang as she happens to be Pippa, Bob's daughter, currently to be seen in both stores familiarising herself with the procedures and learning the ropes. So when you pop in, see if you can spot her! Hours of fun for the whole family!

Well, that's about it for me, hopefully that's enough to keep the blackmail at bay. Hope you enjoyed my little gibberings and perhaps we'll see you soon! Love (or something)

— Moo
