ARTY BEES BOOKS NEWSLETTER

28th February 2003

Wow — I can’t believe my luck!!! Robynne and Jess have untied me from the slave galley for a few moments to allow me to type some stuff for the newsletter… Phew, a rare chance to rest the whiplash marks on my back… er, actually I’m just kidding, we’re all very happy here and not slave driven at all…

Bizy Bee’s is now happily ensconced in the Oaks Complex on Manners Street, opposite the James Smith’s Market. It is enjoying itself very much and luxuriating in the extra room, however, it is also rapidly filling up with books and will no doubt end up as stuffed as Arty Bee’s! It has also gained a large sign which will be generously lit up at night, thereby preventing any nasty shipping accidents but also enabling the shop to be easily distinguished. So check it out!

An interesting thing that has been happening at Bizy Bee’s as a consequence of the move has been the hordes of tertiary students descending upon us like a biblical plague, all in a state of confusion about the location of WINZ. It seems that everyone’s favourite government department has rather hilariously declined to inform anyone of its current whereabouts. This includes their own telephone help desk of course, who are still blithely refering the public to our address. If there is anyone reading this who is confused about the same thing, it is now residing at Wang House (Ed: a match made in heaven!), ground floor 195-201 Willis Street.

Returning to the earlier theme of BB’s being stuffed with books, you will no doubt remember Robynne’s tantalising promise of the shop receiving new books imported from overseas at some point in the future — well, that day has arrived! Bizy Bee’s now boasts an exciting and highly sexy range of brand-spanking new science fiction and fantasy titles which may be difficult to get hold of in the large chain bookstores. These are proving to be very popular and it can safely be said this will continue into the future. For all you detective fiction buffs, I’m afraid we haven’t started getting any of those yet, but — we will! So stay tuned.

However, for those of you who are into the older stuff, we have recently received a whole bunch of classics, history and mythology titles, including all sorts of things you might not usually see such as Egyptian, Mongol, Icelandic, Chinese — not just Roman and Greek! Quite a lot of these are currently residing in the cabinets at Bizy Bee’s, so just pop along and ask the friendly staff members if you can have a peek. (At the books, people, at the books.)

As for Arty Bee’s, they have somehow managed to fit in yet more shelves. I don’t know how they do it… but here’s a fun game. Go down to the store, wander around, and see if you can figure out where they are…

As for the move, I’d say it went about as smoothly as these things go, although I suppose I can say that as I didn’t have to do any of the heavy lifting! Anyway, things have settled down somewhat, and if you haven’t been down to the new premises we’d love to see you, darling! Oh, and if you’re wondering about that opening party, I haven’t heard anything about that either, but we’ll keep you posted…

Well, better get back to the galley, lovely chatting with you all

— Moo
