ARTY BEES BOOKS NEWSLETTER

04 September 2003

Hello and greetings to you all. Yes, another month has gone by and I have been given the job of writing the newsletter. I have been part of the Arty Bees team for a month now — I have learnt a lot but still have a long way to go! I have spent most of my time at Bizy Bees and I am continually amazed by how much the staff know about books and their authors and indeed, what is in the shop at any particular time. I am still trying to find my way around the shelves and grapple with the exact science of buying and pricing books and the only thing I know for sure is how much I don't know!!

The new computer has arrived at Bizy Bee's and it won't be long until Arty Bee's joins the computer age. A laptop has also been purchased to try and speed the process of getting books onto the website and indeed, onto the Internet. Hopefully this will evolve over the next few months as we work our way through this new set of challenges.

What's new in terms of stock?

At Bizy Bee's…

We were excited to unpack the first shipment of new detective novels last week. We're now stocking Sharyn McCrumb, Nevada Barr, Elizabeth Peters, Lilian Jackson Braun, Barbara Hambly, Martha Grimes and Caroline Carver (notice — they are all women — does it follow that women write better detective fiction or is it just that the mainstream bookstores don't stock them!).
Hot off the press — Dorothy Gilman and J.D.Robb books have just arrived!

And in the new sci-fi range, we now have some Spider Robinson and lots of R.A. Salvatore. Robert Sawyer's Humans, the sequel to Hominids is also in stock - This is an interesting and odd alternative history (according to Matt).
Mercedes Lackey's Shadow of the Lion has arrived and at the end of September we are expecting her Exile's Honour - a Novel of Valdemar. We are also expecting Terry Pratchett's Monstrous Regiment in hardback — $55.

We recently purchased a large number of art and design catalogues of stock photography... These are full of the most wonderful photographs of everything imaginable and took forever to price as we kept getting distracted! A few of these have CDs.

At Arty Bee's……

The processing of sheet music has taken on a new urgency. Watch for new stock on the shelves each Monday.

And finally, come in to either store next week to pick up some fantastic bargains in our cookbook sale. Starting Monday and not to be missed!

Cheers,

— Pippa
