Between 1982 and 1987 the Bank of New Zealand Art Collection grew to contain nearly 500 paintings, photographs, prints and ceramics - among them some of the most important works of art produced in this country. With Wellington gallerist Peter McLeavey as advisor, the Bank built
a collection based on a sense of adventure, curiosity and a desire to bring together works of art that embodied both the spirit of contemporary New Zealand and of the pioneering era leading up to the present.
