A Way of Love
A Way of Love
Courage, James
Jonathan Cape, London, 1959. Second impression. Grey hard cover with blue titles on spine and red stripe on front. Some bumping to the bottom edge of the front board. Contents tight with some foxing, particularly to the page edges. No inscriptions. 255pp. Dust jacket has faded spine and chipping to corners, edges and spine ends. Nice copy. "A Way of Love" takes as its subject a young man’s homosexual relationship with an older man. Discreet to a fault, and even self-apologetic by modern standards, the novel was banned under the censorship provisions in place prior to the setting up of the Indecent Publications Tribunal in 1964, and was only available to few New Zealanders.
