Joy Crombie's forty-five years of missionary service could be summed up in three words; faith, hope and love.

Joy believed in Christ as her saviour in her high school years and this faith remained to light the rest of her life of service to her fellow men. She needed faith to enable her to master difficult languages, and faith to practice her medical skill which demanded expertise far beyond her training.

Joy lived in hope; at peace in the present and trusting God for the future. She spoke to thousands of patients concerning this hope for eternity which could be theirs by accepting Christ for themselves.

Love was a key to unlock doors in Africa where many people called her ‘Mother Joy’. This love was evident again when, at seventy years of age, she returned to Ethiopia for a further two years.
