Thrill Me Every Day: The Celia Dunlop Collection
Jill Trevelyan, Stephen A'Court, Andrew Ross
A stunning book documenting an extraordinary NZ art collection with over 250 works of NZ art, craft & contemporary jewellery. Includes paintings by Gordon Walters, Bill Hammond & Robyn Kahukiwa ; ceramics by Bronwynne Cornish, Richard Parker & Katherine Smyth ; jewellery by Alan Preston, Warwick Freeman & Ann Culy. Celia Dunlop was a collector driven by her intense passion for art, surrounding herself with works which resonated with her sense of identity as a New Zealander. During her lifetime Celia collected over 250 art works by 121 artists, with most of the works happily living floor to ceiling, wall to wall, in her Wellington villa. Artists featured include Gordon Walters, Peter Robinson, Robyn Kahukiwa, Lynn Kelly and many more painters, jewellers and ceramists. Art played a vital role in Celia’s life, providing her with intellectual stimulation as well as emotional and spiritual sustenance. After 40 years of collecting she declared that although not good for the budget, art was “wonderful for the soul”. We hope that you will have your own unique experience of this through the exhibition.
