Blue-Water Rationale - The Naval Defence of New Zealand 1914-1942

Govt. Printer, Wellington, New Zealand, 1981. No Dustwrapper.

Imperial Defence in the Pacific, set against New Zealand's isolated position - the discussions and development of the main fleet to Singapore strategy, considered second best to a Battle Fleet permanently based in the Pacific. A fleet, far smaller than originally planned, arrived at Singapore in December 1941, only to suffer immediate defeat holding out not months predicted by British experts but rather just seven days before falling to attacking Japanese forces on 15 February 1942. This history was extensively researched from New Zealand National Archives and the Public Record Office.
