At the end of the war, Harry Wilcox, who had served with the anti-aircraft gunners in the Battle of Britain and with the Irish Guards on the Continent, found himself on the staff in India. "Like millions of others I wanted to escape for a while from the post-war world and the twetieth century; unlike those others, I did escape."
