John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester, is now coming to be recognised as one of the important English poets of the seventeenth century, but hitherto his works have been very inaccessible. The present volume is an attempt to give the modern reader a reliable text of all the poems that can reasonably be ascribed to him. The book is illustrated by two contemporary portraits of the poet and a reproduction of one of the autograph poems in the Portland collection.
