Set in London, a mother, recently widowed and wanting to be alone in her grief and new found freedom, and yet not wanting to be alone, lives in one half of a comfortably shabby flat; her son and his wife live in the other. She wants to see her son's marriage succeed and be strong, and she wants to be necessary to its success. All three have strong characters, and inevitably, they clash.
