The Church of Chora Monastery, located in a street of Edirnekap?, was built de novo in the place of a very old chapel, as affiliated with a monastery, by Emperor Justinian. The monastery, left outside of the city walls, was called Chora, which means 'what is left outside of the city walls'. Later, with the extension of the city walls, the city was included within the city walls but the monastery still continued to be named this way. The church was repaired by Theodoros Metokhites and was decorated with mosaics which bring admiration among the viewers even today. We tried to present in our book the exquisite mosaics and frescoes of this church, which best reflects the Byzantine art in the period of Palaiologos, as well the stories of these mosaics and frescoes. For you to be able to comfortably track the mosaics and frescoes as you tour the museum, rather than following a chronological order, we just assigned numbers to all of the mosaics starting from the left of the external narthex and presented them in order without missing one. We also placed the subjects expressed by the mosaics beside their pictures. This way the mosaics and their stories attained uniformity....
