Description

Detroit: The Dream is Now, photographer Michel Arnaud's follow up to Design Brooklyn, is a visual essay on the rebuilding and resurgence of the city of Detroit. In recent years, much of the focus on Detroit has been on the negative stories and images of shuttered, empty buildings - the emblems of Detroit's financial and physical decline. Now, Arnaud instead aims his lens on the emergent creative enterprises and new developments taking hold in the still vibrant city. Divided into four sections, this book explores Detroit's rich industrial and musical past while giving voice to the dynamic communities that will make up its future. The first section provides a visual tour of the city's architecture and neighborhoods, while the remaining chapters focus on developing design, art, and food scenes through interviews and portraits of the city's entrepreneurs, artists and makers. Detroit: The Dream is Now is the story of an American city in flux, documented in Arnaud's thought provoking photographs. The book will feature essays from the following contributors: Matthew Clayson, Vice President and General Counsel of Detroit Trading Company. Lynn Crawford, a founding board member of Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD). Jennifer Conlin, a frequent contributor to The New York Times for more than a decade, writing most recently about Detroit's revitalization efforts. She is the founding editor of Creative Voice, a social media based arts journalism source that produces and posts videos showcasing the arts and culture in Southeast, Michigan. Sarah F. Cox is a writer/blogger who renovated a dilapidated Victorian home in Midtown Detroit, where she now lives. As the founding editor of Curbed Detroit, she covered all things city real estate before moving onto a role as director of the Write A House nonprofit....
