The Davis-Monthan Air Force Base lies in the Arizona desert near Tuscon. To aviation enthusiasts it is one of the most interesting and fascinating places on Earth, for here, bathed in the dry heat of the desert sun, are to be found 4687 aircraft. It is a retirement home for supersonic fighters, for faithful prop-powered transports, for tank-busters and almost every type of aeroplane that has served in the world's most powerful air force.
