Eric Leofwin Cordery was born in Christchurch in 1910, received his primary education at Chirch and State schools in that city, Western Samoa and the Marlborough Sounds, and his secondary education at Wellington College. For 37 years he was a staff member of a leading insurance company, leaving it at the beginning of 1964 to assume the post of Chief Administration Officer at St. Paul's. In time this developed into the role of Registrar with responsibilites for the business administration of the School, domestic staffing, repairs and maintenance, and the post of Secretary to the Waikato Anglican Boy's College Trust.
