Richard Donald, an Emeritus Professor from the University of Otago, switched from writing scientific articles to taking 'French Leave' in a small picturesque fishing town in the south of France. This uncharacteristic outburst of escapism was actually encouraged by his wife, well known ceramic artist Gennie de Lange, and the couple bought a dilapidated 300-year-old apartment in Sete.
