The major part of the contents of this volume appeared weekly in the form of a Diary of the War in the columns of the 'West Yorkshire Pioneer' and the 'Craven Herald.' It conveys a detailed account of the South African campaign from the point of view of a corporal serving in the second New Zealand contingent. He went on to see action in WW1 and died in 1917. The first edition of the book was published around 1900...
