This is a series of 12 biographical portraits of New Zealanders who have made significant contributions to the country in the 20th century. It pays tribute to outstanding but not necessarily well-known figures who embody the values espoused by Jim Anderton and his political colleagues. The subjects encompass a range of interests: sporting, cultural, social and political. The book aims to restore these "unsung heroes" to their proper place in the political and social firmament, and in so doing, assert the values specific to New Zealand which are partially lost to view in the internationally-driven reforms of the 1990s.
