Funny Foreign Travels
Title:
Funny Foreign Travels
Asbridge, Gordon
$16.00

Wild, woolly and often hilarious stories on subjects ranging from climbing Mount Fuji with 40 000 other people to trekking in a small party in Nepal, and from crossing South America overland to roughing it in Morocco are told in this book by former New Zealand diplomat, Gordon Asbridge. Its 25 chapters also include pithy anecdotes from Gordon's anecdotes as a student in early post-war France and Franco's Spain.

There are some weird golfing tales and tips on bed and breakfast travel in Britain and Ireland and on how to get the best out of a holiday on Bali.

Funny Foreign Travels is less political and perhaps of more universal appeal than Funny Foreign Affairs, also published by the author. The earlier book describes in a fluent urbane style which can be very amusing (Patrick Macaskill) the vain, self-seeking and at times ludicrous behaviour of some of our diplomats abroad. In his new book Gordon again draws on his experience as a diplomat in Japan, Korea, France and Australia.
