Though there was a photographer present to record the Wright Brothers' first flights, and the fiery end of the Zeppelin Hindenburg, there was none to witness the drama of Lindberg's Atlantic crossing nor the fall of Baron von Richthofen. Thus it is inevitable that the presence of the photographer has shaded the recording of aviation history. In this book, these largely arbitrary constraints have been cast off, for here, for the first time, is the story of aviation illustrated entirely with paintings, all original works by members of the highly regarded Guild of Aviation Artists. With one or two exceptions, none of the images has been published before.
