A beautiful young woman, Ruth (Kate Winslett), on a trip to India, falls under the spell of a guru. Her family tricks her into returning to Australia where they force her to submit to the deprogramming skills of P.J. Waters (Harvey Keitel). Ruth and P.J. go to an isolated cabin for three days and nights. Even though he is missing his usual back-up support person, P.J. is confident that he can get the job done and move on to his next assignment. But he has never met a woman quite like Ruth. Thus begins a battle of wills which culminates in an intense sexual and psychological relationship.
