Note - Book 2 only

The Slaughter Pen is the second book in a series of three books about the horrific marine battle for Tarawa in World War II. Annihilation Beach...the first book in the series...deals with the first day of battle and explains why the battle took place in the first place. The Slaughter Pen is the follow up to Annihilation Beach and it deals with the fighting that took place on Day 2...or D+1...of the battle. This is a fictional account of the battle and the story follows a platoon of marines from the 2nd Regiment who must fight their way ashore and then experience all the horrors that were associated with the battle on the island itself. The story attempts to portray the fighting that took place for the island as accurately as possible in order to give the reader a realistic view of the battle. Japanese characters are also used to explain the battle from the Japanese viewpoint as well. The reader of these two books will have a better understanding of how and why the island war in the Pacific Theater was waged by the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II....
