Title:The Certainty of Doubt - Tributes to Peter Munz
Published by Victoria University Press, Wellington, 1996, 368 pages. These essays have been written by Peter Munz's friends and colleagues to celebrate his 75th birthday. They write on a number of broad themes - history, the philosophy of history, the philosophy of science and the problems of knowledge - and in doing so they reflect the growth and breadth of Munz's intellectual interests and achievements. These essays are all major contributions to their fields - which range from 5th century monastic life to claims before the Waitangi Tribunal to the importance of evolutionary theory for history and philosophy - and together they illustrate the common causes and concerns of New Zealand and international scholarship.
