It is some measure of the nature of life in the Arctic, and of Freuchen's part in it, that this true tale is all in the day's work. From the moment when his Eskimo wife Navarana, keener sighted with the naked eye than he is with first-class binoculars, first sights five tiny moving specks in the infinite distance of the snow to the north of their settlement at Thule, to the moment many months later when Freuchen watches the five men being taken safely aboard a whaler at Thom Island on the other side of Melville Bay, enough adventure is packed to satisfy most people for a lifetime. It certainly satisfied those five tough whalers, who were reduced to a state of serious exhaustion...
