This book presents the other side of the picture of the North American Indian from that depicted by 'Westerns' (films and books). It traces the story of Christian enterprise among the three Affiliated Tribes, Mandadn, Hidatsa and Arickara, from the paternalism of the 19th century to the self-government of the 20th, and incidentally tells how the Indian was assimiliated into the white man's culture by means of a particular mission in North Dakota.
