This book aims to describe the evolution of blitzkrieg as a technique of war. The literal translation of the term - `lightning war' - indicated quick victory, something which mankind has striven for throughout history. The sense in which the author has used it, however, is that coined in the late 1930s, which implies quick victory through the harnessing together of air power and mechanised ground forces to defeat the enemy by means of dislocation rather than the direct wholesale destruction of his armed forces...
