The purpose of this book has been to reveal the events of the period that were uppermost in people's minds. The method has been to look for the time's reflection in the illustrations, mostly photographs, which appeared in the otao Witness newspaper. The two photographers on the staff of the Witness, many of whose pictures we reproduce here, were Guy Clayton Morris, who signs his work `Guy' and George Hicks.
