The Lost Generation is a collective biography; the Grenfell brothers and Brooke are here, and Edward Horner, F.S. Kelly, Patrick Shaw-Stewart, Will Gladstpone, Erasmus Darwin and many others, perhaps lesser known, but whose loss was all the same a more than personal tragedy. Their photographs are still cherished in silver frames on unopen grand pianos, but, as one of them said, `It is not the length of existence that counts, but what is achieved during that existence, however short....'
