Title:Dictionary of New Zealand Biography
Published by the Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington, 1940. Volume I, A - L, Volume II, M - Z. Some foxing throughout, especially at page edges and endpapers. Minor marks on the covers of both volumes, with fading and wear to spines. Scholefield was a journalist, historian, and librarian. He first had the idea of compiling a dictionary of New Zealand biographies in 1907, and as the primary editor of this two-volume set, he wrote about 95% of the biographies it contains. Dr. G. H. Scholefield's Dictionary of New Zealand Biography stands out as one of the most permanently valuable works of reference yet produced in the Dominion.
