Homewood is unique among old houses built by the first European settlers in New Zealand in several ways. Its history is documented in detail from the date of the earliest European settlement in Wellington; the three New Zealand families that have lived there were successful and influential in the Colony, and their histories reflect the history and development of New Zealand society.
