'Poems 1953-1983' contains most of the poems Anthony Thwaite published in book form between 1963 and 1977, a selection from his first book, 'Home Truths' (1957), and from 'New Confessions' (1974), the whole of 'Victorian Voices' (1980), and about half of his more recent uncollected pieces. The book shows thirty years of devotion to his art, and is an imaginative achievement at the highest level.
