This is a history of a fascinating corner of Adelaide, lying between the River Torrens and the Mt Lofty Ranges. Historically a market garden area it was one of the first areas of Adelaide to develop. It was settled initially by British and German settlers around 1850. A large Italian group arrived in the area during the Depression of the 1920s, and flooded in after WW2.
