It is a literary monument to the courage of the doctors and surgeons, like himself, whose constant concern for the suffering of others was ever their prime and only motivation.
The small town of Dien-Bien-Phu is in northeast Vietnam and the time was February 1954, towards the end of the first Indochina war between French Union forces and Vietnamese communist forces.
