Tina Needham came to New Zealand in the 1962 as Photini Vandoru. She was Greek by nationality but born and brought up in Romania, in Bucharest. In Greece to fulfil the examination requirements for expatriate Greek children she was caught up in the events of World War 2. She had great difficulty returning to Romania and her family. The extended family moved back to Greece after the war and then emigrated to New Zealand. After an unhappy marriage in Australia Tina moved to New Zealand and it is now her adopted country. Her story is full of pathos. Her first love died tragically; her second failed her, after many years of loneliness she found the man she truly loved in Wellington.
