With the collapse of the Iron Curtain in the last decade, one of the most enduring images has been the children left in dark, medieval orphanages to fend for themselves. Malnourished and unloved babies with sad eyes and no futures. Hundreds of New Zealand couples saw those images from Romania and other countries, and tried to adopt these children.
