The flatbottomed boat is the wheelbarrow of the sea; it is indispensible. In any shallow bay or creek may be found a flatbottomed boat belonging to some fisherman, or it may be used by somebody who does things on the opposite shore. It may have a centre board and a sail, which will add greatly to its utility, but on the other hand, not wishing to detract from its carrying qualities - perhaps the lowly leeboard it resorted to.
